Synapse is hosting a free virtual conference, Future Leaders in Brain Injury: Sports-Related Head Injuries, which provides opportunities for students to explore a variety of medical specialties and career paths focused on advancing the field of brain injury.. Learners of all levels from undergrads to clinical students are welcome to attend, and we were hoping to extend an invitation! It will be a valuable opportunity for students to network, build relationships with healthcare mentors, and gain more context for their future career goals. April 26-27: United Against Inequities in Disease Annual Health Equity Leadership Conference: Join UAID, the nation's oldest student 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to advancing health equity - for their Annual Health Equity Leadership Conference on April 26-27th! This dynamic virtual event brings together passionate students and early career professionals from across the country to connect, collaborate, and lead the charge in addressing differences in healthcare access and health outcomes. Attendees will have the opportunity to showcase their work and talents through: Community Health Needs Assessment Poster Presentations, Community Health Improvement Project Presentations, and Case Study Competition. Abstract submissions for poster and project presentations are due by 11:59 pm on March 8th.

April 28, 2025 6:30pm: Yale Medical School Virtual Information Session: The Brown Pre-Med AMSA will be hosting a virtual info session with Yale Medical School. There will be a short presentation about the Yale System, followed by a Q&A session. You can join the session here.
May 1, 2025: Biomed Planetary Health Symposium: Call for student poster presentations for the Planetary Health Symposium on May 1, 2025! Posters on any topic pertaining to environmental change and health (of any species) are welcome, including work in progress, complete, or just at the concept stage. PLEASE NOTE: Printing and printing costs will be covered for students. Submissions can be emailed to PHSymposium@brown.edu. More information on poster submissions and symposium registration can be found here.
May 14, 2025: UConn School of Dental Medicine, Passport to Dentistry: The program will be held virtually and will contain the following: a presentation on career options in dentistry, a review of the application process, and a virtual lunch with current dental students. It is a great day for a potential applicant to get to know us and learn about their school. This program is free. There is a short application for the applicant to complete and submit to Tricia Avolt. Please see their website for a brief description of the program and the application. The deadline to apply is April 14, 2025.

All Pre-Health: Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Heart Camp Volunteer: The Pediatric Heart Center at Hasbro Children’s/Brown University Health is currently looking for motivated volunteers interested to serve as camp counselors at this summer’s Follow Your Heart Camp. Heart Camp is a week-long overnight camp experience for children with heart conditions. At Heart Camp, kids learn to develop self-confidence and life skills to help them navigate the challenges of living with a cardiac condition in a fun and safe environment. They also participate in typical summer camp activities, such as field games, team building, swimming, boating, and nature recreation. Counselor responsibilities include promoting the mission of camp, guiding campers through camp activities, supervising campers, and being a role model for campers. This year, Heart Camp will run from August 10th through August 15th, 2025. This is a great opportunity for undergraduates who are interested in pediatric healthcare, cardiology, child development and psychology/behavioral health. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and complete the Rhode Island Hospital volunteer onboarding process, including a background check and health screening. They are looking for individuals who are bright, dynamic and engaging, preferably with teaching or tutoring experience (TA experience is great!). Candidates must have taken the MCAT within the past 3 years, and achieved a score of 130 or higher in at least two sections of the exam. Gap Year Opportunity: ReConnect Fellowship at the Area Health Education Center: The ReConnect Fellowship is a gap-year program for pre-health college graduates applying to medical or physician assistant school. Based in Roseburg, Oregon, fellows work full-time as medical assistants or medicalscribes in Federally Qualified Health Centers or Rural Health Centers, working with patients in a rural, medically underserved community. Beyond clinical work, fellows join a supportive cohort of peers, engaging in social dinners, professional learning, and receive mentorship and guidance through the application process. All Pre-Health Students: Global Health Experimental Fellowships: Global Health Experiential Fellowship is a 5-week global health research opportunity with the opportunity to conduct global health research in collaboration with Ugandan master’s and bachelor’s students under Yale School of Medicine mentors Dr. Robert Rosenheck and Dr. Yang Jae Lee. This rigorous program has gained recognition as a gold-standard in global health education. Its impact is highlighted in a forthcoming paper under review in the Annals of Global Health, co-authored by global health leaders such as Dr. Brandon Kohrt, Dr. Robert Rohrbaugh, and Dr. Peter Waiswa. Over the past two years of the fellowship, over 80% of participating fellows have or will become co-authors of a peer-reviewed scientific article; some examples can be found here, here, and here. Fellows will develop transferable skills useful in all fields, but particularly in medicine, research, and public health. All Pre-Health Students: Montefiore Einstein Bioethics Mediation Online: Intensive:The Montefiore Einstein Bioethics Mediation Virtual Intensive offers participants a dynamic and immersive learning experience, combining interactive didactics with small group role-playing scenarios designed to build essential mediation skills. Originally pioneered by Nancy Dubler and Carol Liebman, internationally recognized leaders who literally "wrote the book" on bioethics mediation, this training is grounded in a proven framework that has shaped bioethics mediation practices nationwide. Participants will leave this course well-prepared to navigate ethically complex clinical situations and conflicts, fostering meaningful communication and consensus-building among patients, families, and healthcare providers.
